WHO IS PART OF TEAM CONCERN?
This year we are teaming up with Beauty Bus Foundation and the Kevin Cordasco Foundation: Something Yellow to grow Team Concern and help make this the most successful marathon year yet.
Beauty Bus Foundation delivers dignity, hope and respite to chronically or terminally ill individuals and their caregivers through beauty and grooming services and pampering products.
The Kevin Cordasco Foundation: Something Yellow is committed to raising awareness and funds to support childhood cancers and was inspired by Kevin Cordasco, a courageous young man who battled neuroblastoma for seven years before he passed away at the age of 16.
Money raised by Team Concern will benefit Beauty Bus Foundation and a portion will also be directed toward cancer immunology research, a critical area of study that holds the key to conquering cancer.
WHY RUN WITH TEAM CONCERN?
The numbers are staggering. Cancer is now the world’s leading cause of mortality, taking over 8 million lives annually, and that number continues to rise.
Concern Foundation combats this epidemic by funding innovative cancer research worldwide. The Kevin Cordasco Something Yellow Foundation, Beauty Bus and Concern Foundation were recently invited to visit a research lab at USC Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center and met Troy McEachron, PhD, who is an assistant professor of research in the Department of Translational Genomics at Keck Medicine of USC.
With support from a Concern and Beauty Bus grant from monies raised from the 2017 and 2018 LA Marathon and 5K, Dr. McEachron was able to focus his research on two areas within adolescent and young adult (AYA) cancer: 1) the utilization of cutting-edge approaches to better define the molecular characteristics of sarcomas to enable more precise treatment strategies, and 2) the use of DNA and RNA sequencing technologies to identify and investigate the developmental and therapeutic aspects of sarcomas that predominantly arise in the pediatric and AYA populations.
Join Team Concern today, and together we will be one step closer to our goal of conquering cancer!
